Lino Grandi | Animation, visual effect and 3D Art

KEYNOTE | Animation, Visual Effects and 3D Art – Lino Grandi

3D Artist, Technical Director, and rendering specialist Lino Grandi has been working in the world of computer graphics for over thirty years, spanning animation, visual effects, and visual experimentation.

Since 2018, he has been working at OTOY, contributing to the development and evolution of OctaneRender integration for Blender, the definition of new workflows, and the exchange of ideas with international artists and productions. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with leading studios and brands, contributing to projects for J.J. Abrams’ Duster, Daft Punk, Adidas, and Coca-Cola, as well as collaborations with Japanese animation companies.

At the heart of his research is non-photorealistic rendering, and in particular toon shading. His visual language draws on the aesthetic of Japanese animated films from the late 1980s and 1990s, exploring new ways to bring into 3D the control of light, shadows, lines, perspective, and composition traditionally associated with 2D animation.

An international lecturer and speaker, Grandi continues to explore the dialogue between visual languages and technology, combining Blender, OctaneRender, and contemporary production pipelines to create stylized imagery.

In the keynote “Animation, Visual Effects and 3D Art,” Lino Grandi will explore the techniques, tools, and workflows redefining the relationship between animation and computer graphics: from rendering to image construction, and from the visual sensibility of 2D to the expressive possibilities of 3D.
