He studied composition and piano at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome and is the founder of the famous progressive rock band Goblin - In 2014 he founded his new band: Claudio Simonetti's Goblin, with which he went on numerous tours around the world in 2015. He has composed soundtracks for Italian and American films, including Dario Argento's Profondo Rosso, Suspiria, Phenomena, Opera, Non ho sonno, Il cartaio, La terza madre, Tenebre, Dracula 3D, as well as George A. Romero's Dawn of the dead/Zombi and Wampyr. He has written soundtracks for films by Ruggero Deodato, Sergio Martino, Lucio Fulci, Lamberto Bava, Castellano & Pipolo and Salvatore Samperi. He composed the music and conducted the orchestra in the Rai program Buon Compleanno TV (1984). Musician and animator in Pronto è la Rai? (1988). In 1999 he founded Daemonia, a band with which he made the album Dario Argento Tribute. In 2000 the Goblins reunite to compose the soundtrack for Dario Argento's Non ho sonno, the only episode of the reunion. In 2005: soundtrack for Jenifer - Killer Instinct and in 2006 Pelts, also by Dario Argento, for the American TV series Masters of Horror. In 2017 he published his biography written in collaboration with journalist Giovanni Rossi: Claudio Simonetti - The Silver Boy, published by Tsunami Editions. He has won numerous awards and honors.
At the end of 2019, Claudio Simonetti's Goblins released the album The very best of-Volume 1, and the new album containing unreleased tracks and titled The Devilis Back, with the Deep Red record label; in August 2020, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Profondo Rosso, Simonetti released, with his Deep Red label, an album with new versions of the soundtrack of Dario Argento's film. Worth mentioning, the release in 2021 entitled The Very Best of-Volume 2.
As for 2022: Suspiria, Argento's most famous film in the world, celebrated its 45th anniversary.
For this event Claudio & band recorded an album containing the new version of the original soundtrack with new arrangements and sounds; the album is titled Suspiria Rock Prog Version, released on Simonetti's label Deep Red (distributed worldwide by Rustblade).
On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Suspiria, Claudio Simonetti's Goblins went on tour in the USA and Canada, where they played the soundtrack live with great success during the screening of the film, followed by a concert featuring The Great Film and Record hits of the historic band (almost all sold out in the most important American cities). Also worth mentioning is the highly successful Phenomena concert at the Kawasaki/Tokyo Clubcity on November 18, 2022.
After receiving in 2022 at the Sitges Festival the Golden Méliès d'Or EuropeanFantastic Cinema Award for Lifetime Achievement (the Sitges Festival is one of the most important genre film festivals in the world), a new important international recognition for the author of cult scores such as "Profondo rosso," "Zombi," "Phenomena," "Opera," and "Il cartaio" came in 2023.
Claudio Simonetti is in fact back in Spain, this time at Sombra, Festival De CINE Fantástico Europeo De Murcia, where he received the "Bernard Herrmann Award" for lifetime achievement and where he and his band played the film "Suspiria" live."
