Film director, writer, illustrator and animator, passionate about entomology, anatomy, fairy tales and the history of science. His poetics is rooted in the concept of wunderkammer and is nourished by macabre suggestions that recall the uncanny.
He has made experimental films, installations and videos, receiving recognition at national and international festivals. After the feature films "Fragments of Inexact Sciences", "Imago Mortis and Krokodyle", he began to tell his stories with picture books and became interested in stop-motion animated cinema, being struck by it. Bessoni firmly believes in cinema as a form of expression and in auteur politics. His main points of reference are Peter Greenaway and Jan Švankmajer.
He has published many illustrated books, ranging from fairy tales to biographies of illustrious figures such as Charles Darwin and Cesare Lombroso, to stories related to the wunderkammer and the manufacture of the alchemical homunculus. He wrote and drew the illustrated biographies of Peter Greenaway and Tim Burton. 
For years a professor of film direction, today he is the coordinator of the three-year course in illustration and animation at IED Rome.
He works on new books and film projects, where he can hybridize filmic language with other forms of expression, mixing animation, illustration, and filming with actors.
