Massimo Montignani
Director and Storyboard Supervisor

Born in Florence on Feb. 21, 1975, he graduated from the Florence Art Institute and immediately began working with advertising agencies as a storyboard artist.
He perfected animation techniques at Italo Marazzi's historic Studio 4 where he worked as an animator on many projects including "La Gabbianella e il Gatto" and "Lupo Alberto."
Founder of Studio Stranemani and Jumon Studio, he collaborates with TV productions and European animated feature films such as "Winx," "CoccoBill," "Johan Padan," and "Opopomoz." In the meantime, he also makes video clips for artists such as Zucchero Fornaciari, Lorenzo Jovanotti, Neffa, Max Pezzali.

In 2001 he is the director of the "SPQR" commercial for Nike with which he wins the Best Realization award at the Advertising Gala in Milan, while in 2006 he directs for RAI the TV series "Rat-Man", based on the comic book of the same name by Leo Ortolani. In 2019 he signed the direction of RaiFiction's TV special "H2O AcquaTeam - Sea mission".

From 2006 to 2016 he was a teacher for the Storyboard and Direction course at the International School of Comics in Florence (now TheSign Comics & Arts Academy) and curator of several storyboard workshops in other Italian animation schools.

Since 2019 he has held the role of Creative Director at DogHead Animation, the animation studio founded by Movimenti Production, and Director for the same production company. In 2021, he was Layout Supervisor of animation series such as "Topo Gigio" for Rai Kids and Zerocalcare's "Tear Along the Edges" for Netflix, and Storyboard Supervisor on music clips by renowned international singer-songwriter Mika and innovative Italian rapper and record producer thasup. In 2022 he directed the second season of the animated series "Trulli Tales" for Rai Kids. His most recent work, the 3D animated preschool series "Miniheroes of the Forest" is produced by Movimenti Production and MoBo, and co-produced by Zodiak Kids & Family France, in collaboration with Rai Kids and France télévisions, and is currently available on Rai Yoyo and RaiPlay.
