Aldo Iuliano

Director

Aldo Iuliano was born in Crotone on June 18, 1980. A director and cartoonist, he graduated in 2005 with a degree in Communication Sciences with a thesis on the points of contact between the language of cinema and that of comics (supervisor: Italo Moscati). For cinema he has made with his screenwriter brother Severino as many as 15 independent short films, awarded in Italy and abroad. He has worked for Rai, Mediaset, Sky, directed commercials, video clips, web series, TV formats. His most recent short film "Penalty" won the 2017 Golden Globe, was in the 2017 Nastri d'Argento cinquina, won the SIAE "Best Short Film" award (I LOVE GAI) at the 74th Venice Film Festival, collected more than 45 international awards, was in Official Selection at four festivals on the Academy Awards circuit and has made it to the point of being officially Elegible for the 2018 Oscars. The film boasts cinematography by Daniele Ciprì and editing by Marco Spoletini. Aldo currently teaches directing at Dam Academy and has taught courses in directing and visual storytelling at the University of Teramo and in several schools. He was also a guest at the prestigious Pembroke College to give a filmmaking masterclass on Penalty. His first feature film is "Space Monkeys," produced by Freak Factory and Raicinema,starring Souad Arsane (2019 César revelation actress), Amanda Campana (Summertime, Netflix), Riccardo Mandolini (Baby, Netflix), Haroun Fall (Zero, Netflix), Ambrosia Caldarelli (Circeo, Paramount+).
