The ceremony awards the winners of the two shortfilms competitions, too.

Masterclass with Leonardo Cruciano, Heroes Action Winner (Catch 22, 6 Underground, Racconto dei racconti)
Leonardo Cruciano is the most Italian Special Effects Supervisor. Founder of the Makinarium studio and today in Baburka Studios, he won two David di Donatello for Matteo Garrone's Il racconto dei racconti" and the Carlo Rambaldi Prize. He worked on Tomb Raider", Zoolander and Ben Hur and collaborated with Ridley Scott, Spike Lee and Paolo Sorrentino. In 2020 he was nominated for an Oscar as Best Special Make Up Effects for Michael Bay's 6 Underground. In the TV series, he worked on I Borgia (HBO), Il Miracolo (SKY) e Catch 22 by George Clooney (Netflix).

Fulvio Risuleo graduated at Centro Sperimentale di Cinema of Rome and his shortmovies Lievito Madre (2014) and Varicella (2015) have been screened and awarded at Festival of Cannes,where the second gained the Semaine de la Critique prize. He directed the features Guarda in alto (2017) and Il colpo del cane (2019) and the interactive series Ziqqurath. In his masterclass he talks about his masters and the most important lessons he daily uses in all his works.

Based on the true story, already told by Tim Jenkin in his biographical book Inside Out: Escape from Pretoria Prison, the film is a prison movie that mixes the cards of the biopic and the action thriller. To build the escape plan in detail, director and screenwriter Francis Annan enlisted the help of some real political prisoners from Pretoria.

Which are the new trends of  the American horror cinema? Who are the new masters of fear in USA?
Screenwriter, performer, director and film critic. He has collaborated with numerous print and web magazines of film criticism, from Indie.Horror.it to Taxidrivers to Splatter. In 2010 he founded the portal dedicated to cinema and gender culture InGenereCinema.com, which he still manages. He writes the scripts for some short films, awarded in Italian and foreign festivals. He has collaborated with Bugs Comics since the first issue of Monsters, from number 5, even in the role of screenwriter. In 2016 he wrote and directed the documentary Dylan Dog - 30 years of nightmares with Marcello Rossi, produced by Studio Universal in collaboration with Sergio Bonelli Editore. From 2012 to 2017 he is part of the Fantafestival staff.

Glen McIntosh  (Star Wars, Super8) focuses on his work for the design and the animation of  Jurassic World's dinosaurs. Glen McIntosh has been one of the world's leading lead animators for over twenty years. With Lucas he worked on the first three episodes of Star Wars, with Spielberg on ET L’extra-terrestre and Ready Player One, with J.J. Abrahams in Super 8 and with Michael Bay in Transformers. His most challenging work, however, was the one on the dinosaurs of Jurassic World, of which he oversaw the digital animation. This is the focus of his masterclass for Heroes FIlm Festival.

Sergio Stivaletti is an Italian effectist, director and screenwriter. For over 30 years he has conceived and created characters, creatures and monsters for cinema, television and theater, collaborating with some of the greatest Italian directors such as Dario Argento, Michele Soavi, Lamberto Bava, Roberto Benigni and Gabriele Salvatores. His masterclass bruing us "behind the scenes" of a magic job, indispensable for genre movies, in particular for horror, fantasy, sci fi and thriller.

A celebration of Koch Media's digital label dedicated to horror and a preview of the Midnight Arlequin series.
Midnight Factory, Koch Media's Horror label and an editorial unicum in the home entertainment scene, will celebrate an important change that concerns it at "Heroes Film Festival" and will launch an original series for the occasion dedicated to all lovers of terror and “Evil done well”: Midnight Arlequin, a miniseries created by filmmakers from the IED of Rome in a major transmedia project that will close the event.

Masterclass Storyboarding: William Simpson

William Simpson made his debut as a cartoonist in the historic 2000 AD magazine and since 2011, as lead storyboard artist for Game of Thrones, he has contributed to the design of the dragons, direwolves and three-eyed raven of the most famous fantasy series of all time. With his pencil he told the directors and the workers involved in the production, episode after episode, about the adventures of Winterfell and King's Landing. Making the energy of the images unleash from the drawing is what attracts him most to his work. A work made of moving images, the first essence of any film.

The Art Department: a quarantine webdoc

The Art Department is the forge of the Cyclops where the magic of cinema takes its first shape in the pre-production of the film. From the concept to the first sketches of characters and settings, from design to prototyping of machines and props, from the visualization of the story to its first animated translations, this webdoc leads us in the heart of the most important  Art Departments in Hollywood with five great artists and their daily works.  From William Simpson's Storyboarding (Games of Thrones) to Edvige Faini's Character Design (Maleficent, Pirates of the Caribbean, Krampus), from the direction of photography by Sharon Calahan (Ratatouille, Cars 2, Arlo's Journey) to Glen McIntosh's Jurassic World's Dinosaurs Studies and Sean Rourke visualizing for The Avengers.

What was supposed to be an erotic fantasy, at first sight, turns out to be a gruesome torture... and a living nightmare.

Workshop - Are the new sci-fi tv series killing the sci-fi cinema?: Marcello Rossi
In the last few years, science fiction series, either on tv than online, are taking the place of sci-fi cinema, for quality and visibility?
Marcello Rossi (Rome 1972). Graduated in Computer Engineering, he has dedicated himself professionally to science fiction and the fantastic. He published the Science Fiction Encyclopedia on TV for Fanucci Editore, winner of two Italian Awards. In television he worked for Jimmy (Sky), with the Wonder Stories program, Studio Universal (Mediaset Premium) and was a consultant for Syfy (formerly Sci-fi Channel). He edited the home-video edition of hundreds of titles, including the classics At the edge of reality, UFO and Space 1999. From 2010 to 2018 he was first artistic coordinator and then artistic director of the historic Roman festival Fantafestival.

Armando Fumagalli is professor of Semiotics and History of Cinema, and Director of the Master in International Screenwriting and Production at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.  He is also, since 1999,  a script consultant for the production company Lux vide. In this workshop, he analyzes some of the luckyest movie adaptations from books and novels, starting with Stephen King's ones.
